Health and Safety Policy
Our students’ safety is at the forefront of everything we do. We endeavour to provide thorough and high standard health and safety procedures. We also have measures in place that work to minimalise risks/hazards so that our studio environments are safe. All employees have regularly reviewed risk assessments for the studio, portable first aid kits and always check the equipment and space before a class begins. Any faults, issues or damage to equipment is responded to as quickly as possible and accurately recorded and reported. Teachers are required to undertake annual first aid training and are therefore qualified to administer emergency treatment and are familiar with proceedings should an accident occur where other relevant parties are necessary. If necessary, the emergency services will be contacted first, followed by the parent/guardian of the student using the emergency telephone number provided upon enrolment.
Upon registration, parents/guardians must complete an enrolment form which includes emergency contact details and relevant medical information and conditions. Medical consent is also requested at this time. This includes permission for immediate and necessary first aid treatment by the teacher and other competent authorities/emergency services. These pieces of information will be stored on class registers, easily accessed by teachers. Parents/guardians are responsible to update this information when necessary and where required, to make arrangements relating to medications with the Principal/class teacher. They must also ensure that students bring any necessary medical equipment to class. This must be within date. If there are any existing injuries before a class, the teacher must be informed. Ballet With Sophie will not be held accountable for any injuries gained via any means other than a teacher’s negligence. They will also not be responsible for injuries sustained outside of the studio.
For health and safety reasons, our dress code must be respected at all times. Information regarding this is found on our uniform page on the website. Pupils should not wear jewellery to class and should also bring water.
All staff at Ballet With Sophie will be familiar with the fire action procedure of the venue and will know the location of fire alarms, fire exits and meeting points. In the event of a fire, the alarm must be sounded and the teacher will evacuate all pupils before conducting a register. All belongings should be left behind and no one must re-enter the building until informed to do so by the fire brigade.
